Reading

Reading is the key part of home learning at Huntingtree. Studies have shown that those who read for pleasure have higher levels of self-esteem and a greater ability to cope with difficult situations. Children who read often are able to access and understand the rest of the curriculum.

In school, children are taught to read using Read Write Inc. Phonics.  This is a programme of teaching and learning which is validated as a complete Systematic Synthetic Phonics programme by the DfE. While being taught phonics, children bring home phonics-based materials and books that are directly related to what they have been taught in class. Once they progress to accessing the school library, children then have the choice from a selection of books pitched at their reading ability. All children also are able to choose a 'reading for pleasure' book.

All children at Huntingtree have an opportunity to change their reading books at least once a week.  Below are links to reading resources if you should need a new book before you can get to the school library.

In school, we read to and with all children everyday, and we ask that you do the same at home. 10 mins a day of quality reading time at home makes a huge difference.

We ask parents and carers to share with class teachers via Class Dojo when your child has completed a book. Please find information about this below.
